Alyson Schwichtenberg
Registered Physiotherapist & Pelvic Health Physiotherapist
Growing up I was lucky enough to try many different sports and activities. While I was not particularly good at any of them, I can now say it gave me an appreciation for how the body moves, adapts, and heals. My journey into physiotherapy began with a genuine curiosity about how we can help people feel stronger, move with confidence, and get back to the things that matter most to them.
Since graduating with a Master of Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto in 2018, my practice has grown to include two areas that I’m especially passionate about: orthopaedic physiotherapy and pelvic health physiotherapy.
In orthopaedics, I love working alongside people as they recover from an injury, navigate persistent pain, or rebuild strength after surgery. It is incredibly rewarding to help someone go from feeling limited or frustrated by their body to realizing they are strong and capable of doing the activities they want to do. I enjoy staying informed of the most recent research to ensure my assessments and treatments remain evidence-based.
My interest in pelvic health developed from that same desire to help people feel comfortable and confident in their bodies. Pelvic health is an area that can sometimes feel difficult to talk about, and I want my patients to know that they have a safe, judgment-free space where they can ask questions, be heard, and receive care that is tailored to them. I love continuing education, and have advanced training in male and female urinary incontinence and persistent pelvic pain. I have also taken courses in trauma-informed care, pregnancy-related pelvic conditions, diastasis rectus abdominis, pelvic organ prolapse, and genitourinary syndrome of menopause. I work with individuals through concerns related to pregnancy and postpartum recovery, pelvic pain, bladder and bowel health, and core and pelvic floor rehabilitation.
What I love most about physiotherapy is that no two people are the same. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I take the time to listen to each person’s story, understand what they want to get back to, and work together to create a plan that feels realistic and meaningful. I’m so excited to be joining Thrive Health Ptbo and becoming part of a community that values compassionate, individualized care. I look forward to meeting you, hearing your story, and helping you feel more at home in your body.
Outside of the clinic, you’ll usually find me running, baking, reading, playing with my two dogs, or spending time with my family.
