Sierra Stevenson
Registered Massage Therapist
When I applied to Fleming College’s Massage Therapy program at age 20, I had never had a massage before in my life.
All I knew was that I wanted to help people and better understand the human body, and the study of massage therapy, with its heavy emphasis on anatomy, physiology, and achieving better health, seemed the best way to do that. And whether through random chance or divine destiny, I realized in my very first college class that I loved massage therapy.
Since graduating, I’ve taken additional training in hot stone and Indie head massage, as well as therapeutic exercise, prenatal massage, and integrating meditation with manual therapy. Overall I feel incredibly blessed to be in this field where I have the chance to help someone achieve better health. Regardless of whether it’s relief from a headache, movement without pain, or feeling ten pounds lighter from taking the time to de-stress, seeing the relief massage can give people brings me joy on a daily basis and sets it apart from any other job to me.
After spending my childhood in BC, I’ve called Peterborough home for the past 15 years now, and I look forward to hopefully raising a family here. Until then, I stay more than busy with running, martial arts training, and camping with my high-school-sweetheart turned-husband in our favourite provincial parks.
What’s your favourite quote?
“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
Something everyone does not know about you?
I bring a book (usually a bulky epic fantasy) with me wherever I go. Three-hour car ride? Book. Five-minute drive across town? Book. You never know when you might have a chance to read twelve chapters or two-and-a-half pages.
Something on your bucket list:
Backpacking across New Zealand with my husband. Or hiking the entirety of Hadrian’s wall. Realistic, I know.
